DO’s and DON’Ts for Tourists

  • Please enter the Park only after taking the necessary permits and follow all the rules and regulations.
  • Please obtain services of tourist Guides that the Park has trained for your benefit. They are of great help to you in spotting wildlife and ensuring that you do not lose your way in the forest.
  • Drive slowly in the Park. In this way you can see, observe and enjoy the most, without disturbing wildlife.
  • Keep to the specified route. Driving off track you may trample growing trees and cause disturbance to resting animals and their young.
  • Respect the wild animals and maintain a safe distance from them. Remember, you are in their home and they get first priority.
  • Listen to the music of the forest instead of your car stereo or transistor. The quieter you are, the more the chances of your seeing wildlife.
  • Wear dull-coloured clothes. Bright colours alarm most wild animals and they flee.
  • Do not smoke or light camp fires in the forest. Accidental fires can destroy this wonderful jungle in no time.
  • Don’t get off your vehicle at any point in the Park. This is for your own safety and the safety of wildlife.
  • Do not be disappointed if you don’t see a lion. There are many other interesting creatures that are to be seen and cherished
  • Consuming alcohol or visiting sanctuary under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited.
  • Help keep the park pollution-free. While inside the park, please put your entire non-biodegradable litter (tin cans, plastic, glass bottles, metal foils etc.) into the bag provided and dispose of it on your way out.
  • Always carry drinking water

Note : Under the Wildlife Protection Act, one can be penalized upto amount of Rs. 25,000/- and an imprisonment upto seven years for the wildlife offence.

Co-operation During Sanctuary Visit

  • Visit Gir with prior reservation to avoid disappointment.
  • Please observe the guest house rules and regulations.
  • When you are in the forest wear light colored clothes which blend with the surroundings.
  • Take permit and guide for sanctuary visit.
  • Observe silence in the forest and listen to birds and animals calls. Preserve them life style.
  • Night visit to the sanctuary is strickely prohibited & Punishable.
  • Do not disturb wild animals by blowing horns, playing music or talking loudly.
  • You are a guest of Gir. Don't litter. Keep Gir clean and healthy. Don't keep food during sanctuary visit.
  • Wild animals have a right to live and right of way here. Respect their right. Do not tease or chase them.
  • Do not light fire. A small negligence can creates a big tragedy.
  • Smoking is strickely prohibited during sanctuary visit.
  • Taking fire arms inside the sanctuary is strictly prohibited.
  • Payment is accepted only in Indian currency.
  • Don't throw plastic, polythinbages, water bottle etc. during sanctuary visit.
  • Don't be tempted for wildlife "Darshan" unauthorized.
  • Don't keep private wireless, walky talky or same type handset during sanctuary visit, otherwise punishable.
